Viridian Group, the Irish energy business that owns NIE Energy Limited, grew out of the public electricity supplier Northern Ireland Electricity, which was privatised in 1993. The Viridian Group was founded in 1998 to facilitate the development of new business opportunities.

We are recognized as UK leader in 'pay-as-you-go' Keypad metering and around one in four households in Northern Ireland now pays by this method, enjoying discounted electricity as a result.
