Key to Discounted Electric
Times are tight but NIE Energy is one local company doing something practical to help.
The company took a stand at the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM) for single parent families support charity, Gingerbread.
Whilst at the AGM, NIE Energy staff let the lone parents know that instead of getting an electricity bill, they can pay as they go along and get cheaper electricity. Similar to buying a top-up for your mobile phone, NIE Energy will replace your current electricity meter, at no cost, with a Keypad meter which means you can ‘pay as you go’. Not only that, but you’ll pay less for your electricity using a Keypad as you’ll get 2.5% discount off every unit of electricity you use.
Another ‘pay as you go’ option that may suit lone parents and save them money off their electricity costs is Keypad Powershift. The same as Keypad, in that you pay as you go along and get discounted electricity, Powershift means that on top of this, you get lower cost electricity at all times except around tea time Monday to Friday (4-7pm now, 5-8pm when clocks change).
Powershift won’t suit everyone, but for people who are in the house during the day and have an early tea, or can prepare it earlier, it will save them money. The key to making savings with Powershift is to avoid using energy greedy appliances at the peak hours such as your washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, and immersion heater.
