Strabane Community Project Shines

Local energy supplier NIE Energy has donated free energy saving light bulbs to visitors of Strabane Community Project’s recent Information Day.

At the event for older people, held at the Newtownstewart 2000 Centre, Wilma Stewart from NIE Energy presented visitors with free energy saving light bulbs, along with giving advice on how to save energy.

Wilma from NIE Energy said: “NIE Energy is delighted to participate in this Strabane Community Project event and have the opportunity to offer energy saving advice to our customers and present them with free energy saving light bulbs.

“The free bulbs give practical help as they are one simple way to save money off electricity bills. An energy saving light bulb uses a fifth of the electricity of a normal bulb and each bulb, when put in a frequently used light, can save around £10 a year off electricity bills

“Traditionally, energy saving bulbs were bigger than standard bulbs and either didn’t fit or poked out on top of the lamp shade. That’s not the case anymore. You can now get energy saving bulb equivalents of nearly every shape of bulb you might need and they are nice and bight as well.”

Bulb recipient, Jean Kee from Douglas Bridge said: “I am thrilled to get the free energy saving light bulbs from NIE Energy. It is great to be able to save energy and money.

“I am also delighted to understand NIE Energy is giving away free insulation. Heat is one of the most important things in our house, in order for us to stay healthy.”

NIE Energy has launched a scheme to help cut energy costs with free insulation for householders. For further details on this scheme and other renewable schemes from NIE Energy, please visit www.nieenergy.co.uk
