Energy saving tips for appliances
- Energy labels on appliances show how energy efficient they are. For example an 'E' rated fridge costs around £35 a year more to run than an 'A' rated one
- Don't leave fridge doors lying open as the cold air will escape quickly
- Energy Saving Bulbs are five times more efficient than standard light-bulbs and last eight times longer
- Where possible use the energy saving cycles on washing machines, tumble driers etc.
General energy saving tips
- Pull curtains in winter evenings to keep the heat in
- Don’t leave windows open all day - one hour a day should be enough to freshen the room
- Block up unused chimneys - but allow a little ventilation to prevent damp
- Fit draught seals to doors and windows and make sure your loft has 8" of insulation
- Check your hot tank lagging jacket - you should not see any bare copper of the cylinder
- Insulate cavity walls where possible
